The design
Designing for Preston Hollow homes.
Preston Hollow lots are large, with deep setbacks and long drives, so the lighting has to read from the street rather than from the front door. We plan the trees, the drive and the entry first: hand-wrapped tree trunks and lit tree canopies along the drive, pathways and flowerbeds leading in, and columns and pillars at the entry. Those carry the design from the curb, and the roofline completes it rather than doing all the work alone.
Most homes here are two-story with tall, steep rooflines, which is a planning problem before it is an installation one. We mark the ridges and gables on a photo of your house and decide which lines to run and which to leave dark, so the outline follows the architecture instead of tracing every edge. Mature trees help that plan: a hand-wrapped trunk under a lit canopy gives the front of a property depth a roofline cannot.
The architecture here runs from traditional Georgian, Tudor and French-inspired homes to contemporary builds, and the two want different treatments. Traditional façades take windows and arches, columns and pillars, and wreaths, garland and bows well. Contemporary homes look best with a clean single-line outline in warm white, with the detail moved out to the trees and the entry.
